Support Group Meeting Agenda
4:00 pm to 5:00 pm- Presentation by Dr. Ron Swatzyna and Dr. Julie Sherman, owner of Southeast Texas Behavioral Solutions.
Presentation Abstract:
Autism Spectrum Disorder is a range of complex neurodevelopmental disorders, characterized by social impairments, communication impairments, and restricted, repetitive, and stereotyped patterns of behavior. Experts now estimate that 1 out of 68 children are on the autism spectrum, and males are four times more likely to have this disorder than females. Many treatments are available for this disorder, and include: medication, Applied Behavior Analysis, and neurofeedback. This presentation will focus on the neurological abnormalities that are associated with autism. Brain mapping technology allows a highly precise measurement of brain function and connectivity. This advanced technique allows clinicians and parents to localize the distinctive patterns of altered brain function and abnormalities in Autism Spectrum Disorder. Because it is so specific and individualized, data from the qEEG can also lead to the development of tailored intervention strategies to maximize treatment results. Presenters will share stories of successful treatment, as well as recommendations for when the data indicate that neurofeedback will not be beneficial. A demonstration will be available if time permits.
5:00 pm to 6:00 pm- Stay for a chance to talk with other parents/professionals who are in attendance.
